Darnold enjoyed a fantastic comeback season and the Vikings sit at 14-2.
They can clinch the top seed in the NFC playoffs with a win over the Detroit Lions in Week 18.
The First Take crew previewed the showdown on Sunday night.
“Darnold deserves credit, we know he had a great season,” Smith said.
“But the guy hasn't thrown for 300 yards since Nov. 24 against Chicago.
“I'm just throwing it out there — let's not act like this is the second coming of Dan Marino.”
But Darnold threw for 347 yards and five touchdowns against the Atlanta Falcons on December 8.
He also had 377 passing yards and three touchdowns against the Green Bay Packers on December 29.
Smith continued: “Can we put on the brakes a little bit and have a 'let's see' mentality?”
“Everyone has to show it, so how can he not have to show it? Let's see.”
Fans noticed Smith's questionable stats and commented on the X.
Someone asked: “So does he apologize for shouting out inaccurate information or does it not matter?”
Another said: “This is why I can't watch this show. He threw for 377 yards last Sunday.”
While a third posted, “He literally set a career high in passing yards since that Bears game.”
Darnold is fourth in the league in receiving yards in 2024 with 4,153.
Changes to the schedule for Week 18
The NFL has announced the full schedule for Week 18 of the regular season.
It will feature a prime-time showdown between the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night with everything on the line.
The winner will be crowned NFC North champion and top seed in the playoffs, while the loser of Sunday's showdown at 8:20pm ET will have to settle for a wild-card spot.
Week 18 begins with a doubleheader on Saturday on ESPN and ABC.
The Baltimore Ravens take on the Cleveland Browns at 4:30pm ET before the Cincinnati Bengals travel to the Pittsburgh Steelers at 8:00pm ET.
Eight games will be played at 1 PM ET on Sunday.
Five more will follow at 4:25pm ET – including the Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos.
Only Joe Burrow (4,641), Jared Goff (4,398) and Baker Mayfield (4,279) have more.
He also ranks fifth in passing touchdowns this year with 35.
Burrow leads the way again with 42 while Lamar Jackson and Baker Mayfield have 39 each.
Jared Goff ranks fourth with 36 touchdown throws.
Minnesota faces Detroit at 8:20 PM ET on Sunday in the final game of the 2024 regular season.
