Elon Musk's tirade against the British government was met with a strong response from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
During a press conference in the past half-hour, Starmer said that the recent obsession of the
Musk was spreading conspiracies over the weekend on his social media platform, including calling one of Starmer's ministers, Jess Phillips, a “rape genocide apologist.” In a series of posts on the website The people of Britain from their tyrannical government.”
“I'm prepared to call this out for what it is,” said Starmer, who was under some pressure to respond. “Those who spread lies and misinformation as widely as possible – they are not concerned with the victims, they are concerned with themselves.”
Without mentioning Musk by name, he added: “Jess [Phillips] “She doesn’t need me or anyone else to speak on her behalf, but when far-right poison leads to serious threats to Jess Phillips and others, a line has been crossed in my book.”
While he “enjoys politics and its trends”, Starmer said this “should be based on facts and realities, not lies and on those who are so desperate for attention that they are willing to disparage themselves and their country.”
His intervention comes as Donald Trump, with whom Musk has become incredibly close over the past few months, prepares to return to the White House in just two weeks. Musk will lead a new government efficiency department.
Musk's involvement in an old British row over grooming gangs has also put him on a collision course with Nigel Farage, another Trump ally and leader of the UK's Reform Party.
While Musk and Farage were initially close, and Musk was expected to donate millions to Farage's party, the pair have now faced some fallout over Musk's support for UK far-right activist Tommy Robinson, who is currently imprisoned for contempt of court.
Musk called for the appointment of a new leader for reform in the United Kingdom because “Farage does not have what it takes.” Farage responded by saying: “Well, this is a surprise!” “Elon is a special person, but I'm afraid I don't agree with that opinion.”
