West Ham have sacked coach Julen Lopetegui after just six months in charge.

Former Wolves coach Lopetegui, 58, was appointed in May following the departure of his predecessor David Moyes.

Officially taking charge on 1 July, the Hammers won just six Premier League games during his tenure.

Saturday's 4-1 defeat to Manchester City was the ninth loss in 20 league matches this season and left the club in 14th place, seven points above the relegation zone.

The club has held talks with former Chelsea and Brighton coach Graham Potter about succeeding Lopetegui, initially on a short-term deal.

A club statement said: “The first half of the 2024/25 season was not in line with the club’s ambitions, and therefore the club took measures in line with its goals.”

West Ham also parted ways with Lopetegui's staff, including his assistant Pablo Sanz, head of performance Oscar Caro, chief analyst Juan Vicente Peinado, fitness coach Borja de Alba and technical coach Edu Rubio.
