In a Reddit thread, an unnamed user asked what people would do to improve Costco.
“What is the one item that will take Costco to the next level for you personally?” asked the poster.
The prompt received more than 2,000 responses from fellow shoppers, with people sharing a wide range of thoughts.
While some of the suggestions were on a broader scale, including the proposed “Costco Airlines,” many Redditors agreed on one idea.
One user suggested that the store integrate a “Scan and Go like Sam's Club” feature.
This idea received 1,500 likes from other Reddit users, with many expressing their support.
“Scan and go is amazing. It completely changes the experience and is more efficient than self-checkout,” one person agreed.
“I hate that Costco doesn't have it!”
“I'd pay a little more for my Scan and Go membership. Make it an extra feature option,” another reader suggested.
One Reddit user provided some insight into why the series hasn't upgraded.
“I can tell you from one of the employees that they won't be adding it,” the commenter wrote.
“I've inquired about that as well. The way they lower prices is to reduce theft and error rates.
“Adding Scan and Go is not what they are trying to do.
“They will wait to see if there is a better way to do it, keeping theft and errors to a minimum and then look into it.”
Redditors suggested another benefit to keeping long lines at the checkout.

- Gold bullion, bullion and silver coins are non-refundable.
- Shopping cards are non-refundable.
- Airline items and live performance events are non-refundable.
Costco memberships can be canceled and refunded at any time if a customer is not satisfied.
One Costco shopper noted that they “didn't want to change the experience.”
“The experience now is that you walk into the store, load your shopping cart, and unless you're keeping track, you won't know what the bill is until all your items are unloaded and ready for the car.”
Another commentator described the revelation as “eye-opening.”
“While waiting in the self-checkout line that typically extends to the back of the store, I find myself adding items to my cart that are on hand,” they agreed.
“Almost all of them are bite-sized snacks. I didn't realize I was so easy to manipulate until now.”
