Universal Studios Hollywood will close on Wednesday amid wildfires and high winds that continue to ravage the Los Angeles area.
“Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk will be closed today as a result of high wind and fire conditions,” the theme park announced in a statement. “We will continue to evaluate the situation and expect to be open for business tomorrow. The safety of our team members and guests is our top priority.
Multiple fires fanned by strong winds continue to burn from Pacific Palisades to Pasadena, forcing tens of thousands to evacuate and leaving an unknown number of homes destroyed or damaged. Multiple injuries were reported, including a 25-year-old LAFD firefighter who was taken to the hospital with a serious head injury.
A smoke warning has been issued for much of the Malibu coast to Santa Monica, extending all the way east to Pasadena, until 5pm today.
Gov. Gavin Newsom posted on X early Wednesday that California had deployed more than 1,400 firefighters to fight the blazes. “Emergency officials, firefighters and first responders are all on deck throughout the night doing everything they can to protect lives,” Newsom said.
Newsom declared a state of emergency in the Pacific Palisades area on Tuesday after wildfires broke out and quickly grew to burn more than 2,900 acres.
Mark Hamill, Mandy Moore and James Woods were among the stars forced to evacuate their homes in Pacific Palisades.
