Quinn Ewers had the opportunity to put to rest rumors about his potential transfer from Texas before the biggest game of the Longhorns' season.
Instead he stayed mum.
On3 Sports reported last week that an unnamed school had made a $6 million offer to Ewers to enter the transfer portal and play quarterback for its team.
When asked Wednesday about the speculation, the star QB sidestepped questions about his future, with Texas preparing to face Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl and a shot at the College Football Playoff championship game on the line.
“I mean, right now, I'm not worried about all that stuff,” Ewers told reporters on Wednesday, according to USA Today's Dan Wolken. “I mean people can say whatever they want to say, but, you know, I'm just focused on focusing on Friday at this point in time.”
Even more interesting, Wolken asked a follow-up question to see if Texas' final result in the semifinals or finals would factor into the decision for the 2025 season.
“That's a great question,” Ewers said, before saying again that his focus was on the Cotton Bowl.
Ewers, a redshirt junior, has already transferred once in his college career — from Ohio State to Texas — before the 2022 season.
No matter what happens in the College Football Playoff, Ewers has one more year of college eligibility remaining, or he could declare for the 2025 NFL Draft — where he will be one of the top quarterback prospects.
He had a breakout season in 2024, throwing for 3,189 yards and 29 touchdowns with 11 interceptions — including two Texas Football Playoff wins.
Ewers missed two games with an oblique injury, as heir apparent Arch Manning took over under center.
Manning, a redshirt freshman, has pledged his loyalty to Texas for next season.
He has thrown for 939 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions in nine games for the Longhorns this season.
