‘Absolute disgrace Rangers are in this position’ – what now for Philippe Clement?

“It's over. It's up to Patrick Stewart now. This can't go on, it's impossible.”

Former Rangers striker Chris Boyd was uncritical in his judgment on Sky Sports after the match as Clement once again insisted his side would come back, regroup and recover.

The Belgian coach also emphasized that this is a new, young team, hampered by injuries.

The latter cannot be doubted – even though Dundee have 10 players in the first team – but Clement has now been assembling his squad for more than a year.

Growing pains are no longer an excuse.

So, what, if any, progress was made during Clement's reign?

He had one title in the League Cup, but lost it last month in the controversial final against Celtic.

When he took charge in October 2023, Rangers' city rivals were seven points clear.

At this stage last season, the destination of the cup was still in doubt. Last January, Celtic Park was already put on satellite navigation.

Yes, Clement finally defeated Celtic on January 2 at Ibrox, but since then, he has seen his side drop four points. One step forward, two steps back.

“You can talk about progress, there is no progress,” Boyd said angrily. “You completely destroyed Celtic a week ago, struggling for confidence?

“There were no confidence tussles in the Celtic game. It can't just be one game.”
