DESHAUN Watson is in danger of missing the entire 2025 season.
The Cleveland Browns quarterback suffered a major setback in his rehabilitation from a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Watson re-torn his Achilles tendon during his rehabilitation and had another surgery Thursday to repair it.
The second tear comes less than three months after he suffered the injury.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Watson's recovery could keep him out of the entire 2025 season.
Browns general manager Andrew Berry announced on Monday that Watson had suffered a setback, but he did not know the extent of the setback.
“It's new information that I just learned about in the last couple of hours. So, I don't have everything yet,” Perry said.
“I don't want to rule out anything about a serious injury. We're still gathering all the information.
“And obviously our focus is on making sure he's as healthy as possible.”
The second surgery not only resets Watson's recovery timeline, but raises major question marks over his future in the league.
Kirk Cousins and Aaron Rodgers were prime examples of how Achilles tendon injuries can impact quarterbacks' return to action.
Cousins returned this season and was eventually benched due to mobility issues.
Rodgers also had similar mobility issues and struggled to regain his old form.
Watson was already having a disastrous season for the Browns, passing for just 1,148 yards and five touchdowns in seven games, so there's no telling how he'll play when he returns.
It is likely that the Browns will eventually cut ties with him, as he has only played 19 games in three seasons and is unlikely to play next season.
NFL fans think it's time for Watson to retire and have shared their thoughts on social media.
“Brown is going to get out of this contract somehow,” one fan said.
“This is terrible. I have to feel it,” another fan said.
“Dang. Not fun,” a third fan said.
A fourth fan said: “Yes, his career is over.”
A fifth fan said: “It's time for him to go. He doesn't deserve the huge salary Cleveland is paying him.”
The Browns likely need a new quarterback for the 2025 season, and they may draft Watson's replacement with the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft.
