The Los Angeles Lakers' home game Thursday against the Charlotte Hornets was one of the first major sporting events in Los Angeles to be postponed after major wildfires broke out across the city earlier this week. Now the team's next home game, against the San Antonio Spurs, has been postponed as the devastation caused by the fires continues. It was scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 10, on Crypto.com.
The NBA also announced on Friday evening that Saturday's game between the Los Angeles Clippers and Hornets at Intuit Dome had been postponed. The dates of the postponed matches will be announced later.
The NBA notes that the postponements “ensure that no resources are diverted from wildfire response efforts.”
The league and the National Basketball Players Association are donating $1 million in immediate relief to the American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen and other organizations to support those affected by the fires.
Thousands lost their homes in the Palisades and Altadena fires, including Los Angeles coach JJ Redick.
