If you've ever wondered what an NFL player does on the sideline when he's not in the game, AJ Brown got a glimpse of that when he was seen reading a book during Sunday's playoff game against the Packers.
The Fox broadcast captured the Eagles wide receiver on the bench reading Inner Excellence: Training Your Mind for Exceptional Performance and the Best Life Possible by Jim Murphy.
Brown was not involved in the Eagles' passing scheme for most of the 22-10 wild-card run at Lincoln Financial Field and the receiver appeared to be turning to the book to help guide him through what could be considered a frustrating day.
“It's a little disappointing. Obviously I didn't see much today,” Fox anchor Kevin Burkhart said on the air. “He'll read a little clip here.”
Color commentator and former NFL player Tom Brady joked that it's rare to see someone reading a book on the sidelines.
“I didn't see a lot of people reading books, but I did see a quarterback eating a hot dog,” Brady joked.
The hot dog remark was a reference to when Mark Sanchez was seen eating one on the bench during a game while he was still with the Jets in 2009.
Brown was asked about his literary choice after the game and explained that it is a book he brings to every game.
“It gives me a sense of peace,” Brown said. “This is a book I carry to every game. My teammates call it a recipe. It's the first time I've ever heard that you're going to catch it on camera. It's not the first game. I got a lot of points there, and there's a lot of mental parts about it.
Brown caught three catches for 10 yards in the Eagles' win.
The Eagles advance and will face the winner of the Leaders and Pirates in the divisional round.
