The Aldi coyote gave Wile E. Coyote a run for its money Monday morning.
Shoppers inside a Chicago supermarket had a reason to howl when two officers grabbed a coyote from the refrigerated section, and the horrific moment was captured on video.
An Aldi grocery store in the Windy City's Humboldt Park neighborhood looked like something out of a cartoon Monday, as authorities used broomsticks to stomp around shelves, according to clip shared on social media.
Eventually, an officer grabbed what appeared to be a furry tail sticking out of the shelves and pulled it furiously before the wild animal made a shocking appearance and landed on the market floor.
The gray wolf quickly returned among the cold produce, but was later taken into custody by animal control around 10 a.m., according to reports.
“The animal is currently at our facility awaiting transport to our wildlife rehabilitation partner, Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation,” Chicago Animal Control and Care told NBC Chicago.
“The wolf appears to be unharmed, but Flint Creek will conduct an assessment to ensure its health before releasing it back into the wild if deemed appropriate.”
A witness told ABC 7 Chicago that the animal was wandering around the store's parking lot before sneaking inside.
“He picked a weird location. They do this sometimes. They made a mistake. They're trying to avoid us. They're trying to hide from us,” Stan Gehrt of the Cook County Coyote Project explained to the station.
“It's possible that trying to find a new area to hide ended up inside the store, and this has happened in the past.”
