About 2,500 people were recruited to help fight fires and prevent looting.
The fires killed 25 people, destroyed 12,000 buildings and other structures, and burned more than 60 square miles of land.
There are still 26 people missing tonight and 82,000 people under evacuation orders.
Police say they have arrested 44 people so far in connection with the fires.
