The Biden administration on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against Southwest Airlines, accusing the company of operating several chronically delayed flights and illegally disrupting passenger travel.

The Department of Transportation said in its civil suit with the Justice Department that the carrier ran unrealistic schedules, and said it was seeking the maximum civil penalties.

Southwest operated two chronically delayed flights — one between Chicago and Oakland, California, and one between Baltimore and Cleveland for five months in 2022, the department said.
