McGregor failed in his bid to win the IBO super bantamweight world title when he lost to Erick Robles in July 2023 at Meadowbank.
A period of rebuilding was needed before he got his chance at the big show in Saudi Arabia last month.
He explained: “My career has been full of successes and failures, and you only have to look at 2024, which was a rebuilding year for me after a difficult 2023.”
“So, I wanted to rebuild in 2024 and I think May 18 was the first fight between Fury and Usyk. I was fighting at the Hilton that same night.
“I got out of the ring, ran upstairs to my hotel room, took a quick shower, and was downstairs watching the big fight on the big screen at the Hilton in Glasgow.
“Back on December 21 of the same year, I was part of the rematch and it was unbelievable and surreal. I took the opportunity with both hands. I won and I won well. I feel like I boxed well and looked good while doing it and hopefully I can get myself back out there.”
