Tim Allen's comedies still have a lot of appeal, apparently due to the premiere of his latest series Transmission gears It set a record for ABC's audience.

Disney says that in the seven days since its debut on Jan. 8, the first episode has amassed nearly 17 million multi-platform viewers across ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+ and digital platforms. This represents an increase of 173% compared to the episode's rather impressive same-day audience of 6.2 million.

It is now the ABC series' strongest debut since Conners in 2018 as well as the broadcaster's most-watched streaming debut to date (based solely on streaming numbers across Hulu and Disney+).

That 17 million number includes linear repeats, without which the episode would reach about 12.5 million viewers — still 101% higher than the same day's audience.

Allen stars in the sitcom as Matt, the stubborn widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt's estranged daughter, Riley (Kat Dennings), and her teenage children move into his house, the real restoration process begins.

The cast also includes Seann William Scott as Gabriel, who also works at the store, Darryl “Chill” Mitchell as Stitch, Maxwell Simkins as Carter, and Barrett Margolis as Georgia.

Allen executive produces alongside Nader, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, John Baskin, Jim Patterson, Bob Daily and John Amodeo. Baskin also directed the pilot episode. Dennings is a producer.

The ABC series is produced by 20th Television, part of Disney Television Studios.
