The Iranian judiciary said that the attacker killed the two senior judges in a “planned assassination operation” in Tehran.

The judiciary's Mizan Online website said: “This morning, a gunman infiltrated the Supreme Court in a planned operation to assassinate two brave and experienced judges.

“The two judges were martyred in the act.”

This is believed to be a terrorist act, according to reports.

Another person was also injured in the attack.

The motive behind their killing was not immediately clear, but Mizan said that the attacker was not involved in any case before the Supreme Court.

No further details about the identity of the attacker were revealed.

President Masoud Pezeshkian said: “I strongly urge the security and law enforcement forces to take the necessary measures as quickly as possible by studying the dimensions and angles of this reprehensible act and identifying its perpetrators.”
