A frustrated Target shopper has demanded answers from the retail giant after she found herself unable to pay due to the store's policies on self-checkout.

The woman, who goes by the name @texangirl123, criticized the company in a fiery post on X, formerly Twitter.

She wrote: “Please explain how you don't accept cash at the self-service checkout but don't have any lanes open? (Keep in mind there are 4 employees hanging around the self-service and 2 checking the receipt at the door.)

Her complaint reflects a growing number of complaints from customers about Target's increasing reliance on self-checkout kiosks and a reduction in traditional cashier lanes.

Target has not yet responded to her inquiry.

The problem stems from Target's self-checkout policies. Most of its 1,963 stores nationwide offer self-checkout kiosks, but many use card only, leaving cash-paying customers in the lurch.

While some kiosks accept cash, availability varies by store, and is sometimes more limited due to maintenance or operational decisions.

The lack of open cashier lanes exacerbates the problem.

Shoppers like @texangirl123 have been left stranded with no clear way to pay and little support from store employees, who are often stationed near self-checkout areas rather than manning traditional registers.

This isn't the first time Target has faced criticism over its self-checkout practices.

Last month, one shopper was named Jason He shared his ordeal on X, describing a frustrating experience at his local Target.

“@Target, you run the dumbest store,” Jason wrote.

“They were forced to self-checkout, which had no indication that they were not taking cash.”

Jason recounted that he scanned his items only to discover that he could not complete the transaction due to the card-only policy.

The situation got worse when a gift card issue required assistance, leaving him waiting for help that ultimately proved ineffective.

Jason eventually left the store with his purchases but warned Target that he would not hesitate to walk out without pay if he experienced similar delays at future.

Target responded to his post, requesting details to investigate the incident, but it is unclear whether its concerns have been fully addressed.

Target has faced mounting criticism over recent changes to its checkout processes.

The company recently implemented a controversial Express Self-Checkout policy, which limits customers to 10 items or fewer.

The policy, which was initially tested in 200 stores, was rolled out across the country, angering shoppers who felt forced to stand in long lines or were left without viable options.

In addition, Target's increased use of anti-theft measures, such as locking merchandise behind glass, has drawn further outrage.
