Former England footballer Wayne Bridge has withdrawn from his battle with KSI after the YouTuber “crossed the line” with comments about his ex-girlfriend's alleged affair with former teammate John Terry.

The match, which was scheduled for March 29, was announced just two days ago.

In a statement posted on Instagram, external“These are deeply personal comments that affect my family and other families involved in the situation,” Bridge said.

“I am a family man first and foremost and my priority is to protect them. Of course I expected to face some criticism, but I feel that what was said on Saturday went beyond the limits.”

In 2010, Bridge gave up his place in the England national team and Terry was stripped of the captaincy following allegations of infidelity, which also led to the collapse of Bridge's relationship with French model Vanessa Peroncel, with whom he has a son.

Bridge, 44, is now married and has two children with his wife Frankie, who was a singer in girl band The Saturdays.

He added: “My opponent is someone that a lot of kids around the world look up to, including my own.

“I hope that one day this will be looked at differently. I personally don't want to be involved in these exchanges. I know deep down that this is the right thing to do.”
