Exclusive: International action star, Iko Uwais, known Raid, Expendables and skyline The franchise owner officially launches his production label, Uwais Pictures, with two new films on sale at next month's EFM exhibition in Berlin.
The action-focused production company he runs with his team of collaborators is expanding its reach to the global market. The goal is to replicate the success of local hits with a modest budget e.g Raid, Raid: Redemptionand The night comes to us.
First up on the list are two completed action films: Timurwhich is inspired by the 1996 Mabinduma hostage crisis, and Ikatan Dara. Both will be screened at EFM by Uwais Pictures in association with Gersh.
Indonesia-based Uwais Pictures specializes in incorporating fight choreography, action design, and stunning performance from the very beginning of its projects. Owais and his team of collaborators have worked together for a number of years. Along with Iko Uwais, who serves as Chairman of the Board, Uwais Pictures will be led by Ryan Santoso, Chief Product Officer, along with Lintonius Jerel Ho, Chief Product Officer; and Adami Noureddine, Chief Operating Officer.
Timur It is an action thriller film that follows the real-life international hostage crisis that occurred in Mapendoma in 1996. The subsequent rescue operation was overseen by current Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The film is Uwais's directorial debut and the first action film to be co-produced outside Indonesia. Owais also stars. Ikatan Dara It is a local language action film in which a former martial artist must take on a network of loan sharks to rescue her younger brother, who is trapped in online gambling debts and risking her family's safety.
Owais is also known for his roles in films like Snake-eyes, Stopper, Star Wars: The Force Awakensand Netflix show Woo killers Where he starred, executive produced and served as the principal fight choreographer.
