Exclusive: Preston Oliver (Secrets of sulfur springs), West Mulholland (Steven Soderbergh presence), Ruby Rose Turner (Descendants: The Rise of Red), and Rachel Lefebvre (twilight) Production has wrapped on Someone saved my lifea historical drama based on Angelo Pizzo's childhood in Bloomington, Indiana, and the multi-hyphenate behind titles like Rudy and Hoosiers.
Set in the 1960s, the film follows middle school student Dean (Oliver), who befriends the lively and reckless Roy (Mulholland) in an attempt to escape the clutches of his controlling mother (Lefebvre). But when the boys' friendship threatens Dean's budding romance with Beth (Turner) and his well-being, Dean must find his own voice, or risk following Roy down an increasingly dangerous path.
Piso took it from his own script. Bradley Gallo and Michael A. produced. Helfant for Amasia Entertainment, with Joe Throckmorton and Joseph Stern (Judging Amy) also production. Pizzo exec produces alongside Michael Leahy (Prince, The unbreakable boy), Amasia's Josh Sather, and Sugar Studios CEO Jeju Reid.
Pizzo is a writer, director and producer who broke out with a pair of classic films he wrote for director David Anspaugh: 1986's Inspiring High School Basketball Hoosierswhich received Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor for Dennis Hopper and Original Score (Jerry Goldsmith), and the Sean Astin-led college football drama Rudywhich brought Goldsmith another nomination and is considered one of the best sports films of all time. More recently, Biso has been co-writing The hillanother sports drama starring Dennis Quaid, which tells the story of a pastor's son who pursues his dream of becoming a professional baseball player.
