Vice President J.D. Vance announced Friday in his first speech that he wants “more babies in the United States of America,” echoing President Trump's promise to fight against unfettered access to abortion.

“Our society has failed to realize that the obligation one generation has to another is an essential part of living in a society in the first place. So let me say, quite simply, I want more children in the United States of America.

Vance added that the United States has “failed a generation” by celebrating the possibility of abortion and not helping young couples with the tools they need to support a family — saying the country has adopted a “culture of abortion on demand.”

“We need a culture that celebrates life at all stages, a culture that truly recognizes and believes that the measure of national success is not our GDP number or our stock market, but whether people feel they can create thriving, healthy families in our country,” Vance said. .

He continued: “We are marching to protect unborn children, and we are marching to proclaim and live the sacred truth, which is that every child is a miracle and a gift from God.”

The Catholic vice president has long championed pro-life causes, and said he would return in 2026 to speak again at the “March for Life,” an annual rally around the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

Trump was the first president to attend and speak at the rally in 2022, but he sent a video message instead this year when he traveled to North Carolina and California to survey damage caused by Hurricane Helen and the Los Angeles wildfires.

The president celebrated in 2022 overturning Roe v. Wade, which was brought forward with the help of Supreme Court justices he nominated to serve on the bench.

“We will protect the historic gains we have made and stop the extreme Democratic push for a federal right to unlimited abortion on demand up to the moment of birth and even after birth. Think about that — after birth, and some people want that. Can you believe that?” Trump said in his video message.

“We will extend a loving hand to new mothers and young families, and support adoption and foster care. We will protect vulnerable women and children,” the president added.

“Under my leadership, a finally reformed Department of Justice will investigate far-left attacks on churches and crisis pregnancy centers, and we will bring the perpetrators to justice, and we will bring them to justice, one way or another,” he said.

Trump tried to talk less about abortion during his 2024 campaign, saying that after Roe's ouster, the issue was simply up to the states.

He said in October that he would veto a national abortion ban if passed by Congress, but he does not support late-term abortions.

“Like Ronald Reagan before me, I fully support the three exceptions for rape, incest, and maternal life. “I do not support the Democrats’ radical position on late-term abortion, for example, at 7, 8, or 9 months,” he wrote on the Truth Social website.

The president on Thursday pardoned 23 pro-life protesters who were imprisoned under the FACE Act, which prohibits anti-abortion advocates from blocking entrances to reproductive health care clinics.
