The new evidence and requesting another trial has sparked renewed interest in the case of the murder of a millionaire, nearly 30 years old.
The murder of real estate developer Gary Tryano, carried out by his ex -wife and partner, has gained national attention in 1996.
Treiano had just sat in his Lincoln Town Car in La Paloma Rural Club in Toxon, Arizona, when the car broke out and turned into a flame ball on November 1, 1996.
He had not even operated the engine of the car when it exploded.
The explosion was so strong that the windshield of his car fell into a nearby swimming pool.
An autopsy, which was conducted by the Medical Examination Office in Pima Province, was included the cause of Treiano's death as concussion and fragmented with an explosion.
After an investigation, the former wife of Treiano was arrested by Bam Phillips and her commercial partner, Ron Young, and was charged with first -degree murder and conspiracy for a murder.
Philips Wyong is serving a life sentence after being convicted and sentenced in 2014 and 2010, respectively.
But the new evidence that was revealed by 20/20 reveals more about the relationship between the ex -wife and her partner.
After her divorce, Philips Young met from Treiano, and according to what the two started a relationship. But when she turned over Young, accused him of fraud and alerted the police to the situation, he disappeared.
After the killing of Triano, and when the police officers interrogated Philips, she reduced the importance of her relationship with Young, saying, “He is a person who did some financial work for me,” according to CBS News.
However, a message that appeared in a 20/20 episode inspection revealed that Philips and Young remained in contact with the period of his escape from the police.
“I think it is better to keep the clear relationship between us at the minimum.”
“I don't want to look too much, although you know that I am.
Philips ended the message by signing, saying: “I love you and rely on you.”
This message was found when the investigators have searched Young properties and regained data schedules, Fed-EX receipts, thousands of printed emails and written messages between him and Philips.
The investigation also revealed that the truck that Yong contains the Treiano and Philip divorce papers, a list of people close to Treiano, and receipts that put Young in Toxon immediately before the killing.
The evidence found in the truck was useful in condemning Philips and Young.
Do you target wealth?
Treiano collected a fortune in the 1980s and nineties through real estate projects and casino games investments.
But in 1994, Treiano applied to reorganize bankruptcy under Chapter 11, referring to debts of $ 40 million.
Philips's lawyers have argued that Treiano's debt made him a goal.
They claimed that one of the people who owed Treiano with money, Nile McKenis, had the motive and a means of committing the murderous murder.
McKenis died in 2002, and the doctor who treated him claimed that he kept a “killing” list that includes the name Treiano, according to CBS News.
However, investigators believe that Philips may have been driven by the 2 $ 2 million life insurance policy.
Gary Triano killing the schedule
Gary Tryano was killed in a car bomb explosion in a rural club in Toxon, Arizona.
• November 1, 1996: Treiano, 52, was detonated in his Lincoln Town Car in La Paloma Rural Club.

• 2014: Philips condemning and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of conditional release
• 2023: Philips provided new DNA evidence
• August 15, 2024: Philips submitted a petition to challenge her condemnation
Just weeks after the death of Triano, Philips – as the only guardian of the policy – submitted a suit.
During the trial, prosecutors claimed that Phillips paid Lyong $ 400,000 to build and plant the bomb that killed Treiano.
Among the evidences in the possession of Young was a spreadsheet that tracks Philips Lyong's payments, with interest.
In addition, phone messages registered in the new 20/20 episode show that Philips was more involved than he initially allowed.
Philips can be heard on the tape: “I will not continue to send more and more money to you, unless I know that you can respect our agreement.”
The struggle for a new trial
Now, Philips's lawyer, Stephanie Bond, is struggling for a new trial for her client.
“I think there are two innocent people in prison,” Bond told 20/20.
Philips's crime scene evidence revealed the DNA on the tube bomb that does not belong to Young.
Philips submitted a petition to challenge her conviction on August 15, 2024.
He refused to respond to the Pima County Prosecutor's Office, Philips claims that she was innocent, and that the evidence presented would change the result of the trial.
Bond hopes to link the additional DNA at the crime scene to the crime, using genetic genealogy.
The McNis family issued a statement claiming that he was not involved in the murder.
20/20 will be broadcast on January 24 at 9 pm EST on ABC.
