In recent months, Josh O'Connor has found himself the subject of some speculation suggesting that he could be the next James Bond. So, what does the actor think about it?

“I don't really have any ideas,” he told Deadline this afternoon, smiling. “The truth is, I…I think within a week, I made a joke, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I played Bond?’ And then me and Daniel [Craig] I played actors on actors, and then something else happened, and suddenly I was James Bond. “If I'm Bond, I don't know anything about that.”

O'Connor's comments came during an appearance at Deadline's Sundance studio to support his new drama, Reconstructionin which he plays Dusty, a cowboy looking to start over after seeing his ranch burn in devastating Colorado wildfires. Among those appearing alongside him today was star Callie Reese, best known for her Emmy-nominated role. True Detective: Night Country – who joked about the possibility of playing Bond, saying: “As long as I can be your friend.”

O'Connor is just the latest of many actors rumored for a Bond role, one of the most closely watched roles in town, at a time when the franchise's future is up in the air. (Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Reggie-Jean Page, Sam Heughan, Tom Hardy, and Henry Cavill are among others who were discussed at the same time as the franchise.)
