Apple Maps are now displayed the name GULF OF America to the ocean basin known as the Gulf of Mexico.
Users in the United States can now see the new name on their devices that run iOS, iPados and MacOS. Apple, a US -based company, is expected to continue to launch the new name for users all over the world.
Changing the Apple name in the Gulf of Mexico follows Google and Donald Trump Executive Executive to impose the switch.
Google tackled the name change in a post on X, a small blogging platform known as Twitter.
“We have received some questions about the designation inside Google Maps. We have a long -term practice to apply names changes when updated in official government sources,” I also published Google.
Apple Tim Cook CEO and CEO of Google Sundar Pichai was among the technology giants who attended Trump's opening.
The Associated Press announced in January that it will maintain the name of the Gulf of Mexico in its book, noting that “Trump's order only carries power within the United States. Mexico, as well as other countries and international bodies, should not learn about the change of name.” AP will turn into a reference to Denali as Mount Mckinley.
Google also noted that its “long practice” is that “when the official names differ between countries, users see that users see their official local name. Everyone in the rest of the world sees both names. This applies here as well.”
Apple publicly did not comment on changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico.
In late January, the President of Mexico, Claudia Shinbom, sent a message to Google asking the company not to change the name, and informed reporters at a press conference, “If a country wants to change the name of something at sea, it will only be applied up to 12 nautical miles. No. The rest can apply, in this case, the Gulf of Mexico. This is what we explained in detail to Google.
