His performance qualified for the internal European championships.

“I came here to do a job – that was first and foremost eligible for European internal championships and put my name in the hat again to the worlds and it is clear that winning,” Mills told BBC. “We are pleased to do this.

“When I go to races now in these tournaments, I will win medals, and this is what I aim to do.

“I really give everything to this sport and just want to be the best athlete I can.”

In the 3000 -meter women's race, Hannah Numal won victory against Laura Muyer, who was second.

Both will also participate in the inner European Championship.

“I thought today that I would likely get out if I had the best possible race, but to actually implement it and do so is another thing,” Numal said.

“I thought I would just follow her [Muir] And see what I left in the tank in the end; I had other equipment and when I got it and nothing left for her.

“The nerves in the past few days have been outside the scale.”
