Stand away from MTA without a heart, please!
MTA has canceled a popular program that allows students with autism to register public advertisements throughout the metro system, the stunning Big apple parents and their children alike.
Many young people with autism spectrum disorder love the metro, and they often focus extensively on the details of trains and buses, metro maps and train tables – and conductors.
The unbeatable group, the autistic transit project, runs the program in coordination with transit systems throughout the country.
But MTA, which she sponsored with children with autism in 2022 and 2023, refused to participate last year until now this year, according to the group.
“Thank you for communicating. Unfortunately, we are not able to absorb this request,” MTA spokeswoman, Jonathan Trekter, founder of the autistic transit project, told an email on January 22.
No explanation has been provided.
Trichter responded via email, “You will crush the hearts of dozens and dozens of children with autism in New York City who love MTA like any other circle; there will be a lot of tears when they hear this news. So I hope you a lot to reconsider MTA.”
Parents and children with autism confuse why MTA has turned into Grinch.
“It is a real slap in the face of children with autism spectrum disorder,” said Berina Epstein, whose son, Morgan, said in 2022 and 2023. It is out of me. “
Morgan, who is now 8 years old, said that ads are a “really great experience”.
“I was really disappointed when I discovered it. Morgan said:” I was really looking to do this again. “
He even said that one of his colleagues was “crying” when he heard that MTA refused to revive the program this year.
The father, Eliana Kaiser, said that her 12 -year -old son was “really disappointed” because the program had stopped because he did not get a chance to participate.
“It's ridiculous. It was a good program for children.”
Leo is really on trains. It is useful for him. “
Andrew Ozi, a town of 18 -year -old community school student in Manhattan, who participated in the program in high school, was surprised by the end of the program.
“I think it's a shame. Children enjoy the program. They enjoyed it. Ozi said:” You can hear the enthusiasm. “
He said that the initiative provided an opportunity for students with autism to show that they are someone who has something to say.
“I have autism and I can be the best I have just like you,” Ozi said.
Parents and children with ASD will witness at MTA on Wednesday to try to persuade copper to return the program for the month of April, which is the month of awareness of autism.
MTA described the program in 2023 and 2022 during the month of awareness of autism, where press conferences were held at the Volton Center Street and directed press data.
In 2023, registered ads for students were operated on 11 stations, including Volton Street, Union Midan, Times Square, Pennsylvania Station, and 34th Street Station, among other things.
“I thank the children and their families for their hard work on these ads and hope to continue to strengthen and adopt their curiosity over the transportation system,” said Shenva Riera, Acting Customer Office at MTA.
Trichter, founder of the Autism Transit project, claimed that MTA has personal beef with him because he was a Republican activist who was a candidate for the state observer, and for this reason the program was canceled.
He said that this has nothing to do with autism program and children should not be punished.
“Two years ago in 2023, MTA agreed to do the project in one case. This was after they did so for the first time in 2022, but they discovered who I was at the last minute, I think. Trichter said:“ The one condition in 2023 is is “I do not participate.”
In 2023, Icludenyc coordinated the event with MTA instead of Trichter and the Autism Transit project.
“This was. They only agreed to do this if I was not involved.”
“I was hoping that we could continue working with them [ICLUDEnyc] In order to fulfill the MTA request. But this was clear that this was not an option for MTA this year or last year. “
MTA rejected the comment.
