President Donald Trump has signed an executive declaring English as an official language of the United States, the first designation of this kind in the country's history near 250 years.
“From the establishment of our republic, the English language was used as our national language. Historical government documents were written in our nation, including the declaration of independence and the constitution, all in the English language. Consequently, a long time has been declared a long time to declare the English language as an official language for the United States. The designated language at the national level is at the heart of a unified and coherent society, and the United States is strengthened by a citizen who can exchange ideas freely in one common language.
This step, which was taken on Saturday, cancels a former executive from Bill Clinton in 2000, which aims to improve access to services for people with limited English mastery. However, the newly established policy does not impose any changes on how the agencies are currently making their tasks, which means that they are not required to amend or remove procedures or documents submitted in languages other than English.
More than 30 states already have the English language as an official language, although Americans have become increasingly dual language, as census data indicates that one out of five people speak a language other than English at home.
At that time, the founding fathers did not feel any need to establish the English language as the official tongue, given that it was already dominant and that doing so would express those who helped struggle for independence who talked about Dutch, French or German. However, the use of the language in the United States was prohibited historically, as both the worshipers and the indigenous Americans were banned from speaking their original tongues at various points in the country's history.
