Paris Live Cinema is heading to New York.
The organizers behind the famous place, one of the most delegates in Paris, is heading to New York this week to host a series of film shows in cinemas all over the city to communicate with their Cinephiles colleagues and collect money for the continuous re -development in Paris.
La Clef has been officially closed since 2019. The cinema was saved from the permanent closure last year after Cinéma Revival, a group of local volunteers and cinema sponsors long, bought the building that its previous owner placed. The La Clef rescue campaign was a battle of a period of five years and began a bold community profession for the building, which has grown to an international movement related to the figures of the film industry, lawyers, activists and government officials.
The group bought the building for 2 million euros collected through an online donation campaign. 400,000 euros were collected from 5,000 individual donations with shareholders including filmmakers and actors such as Wang Bing, Lyus Carx, Celine Siama, Sophie, Agnes Joy and Irene Jacob. The remaining funds were collected through a technical sale, including the work that the late David Lynch donated, and a series of generous donations from the beneficiaries, including Fictional pulp Director Quentin Tarantino.
The group now aims to collect between 400,000 euros to 500,000 euros to end and reopen renovations in September. The work was continuing on the La Clef Cinema, which is located in the heart of the historic left bank area in Paris. The remaining work includes the removal of asbestos and electrical wires.
The group will start to stay in New York on Wednesday at the Film Forum, where they will check the Classic Jean -Luke Godard A woman woman. They will also go to Harlem to present the Raphaël Grisey and Bouba Touré feature for 2022 Cross voicesAnd on the Brooklyn Bridge on the screen Goodbye Tiberia Written by Lina Solim at the Brooklyn Center for Theater Research.
“The goal of the trip is to start a new fundraising campaign in the United States, as well as to meet Cinephiles and people who can care about our story,” the group told us this morning before their journey.
In New York, the situation with cinemas is equally bad. Several cinemas were closed during Covid, so we thought our story could be good to share it, and we hope that we can build a society with people who might want to try a similar campaign. ”
La Clef has received a lot of love from American film makers over the years. Once again in 2023, before the first Cannes festival appeared Kamar of VenusMartin Scorsese shared a video message followed by an article in the French newspaper release Express his support for cinema. Halloween Director John Carptter also shared a video to support the Los Angeles movement. and Sweet East Director Sean Price Williams was one of the many filmmakers such as Friedrich Wazman, Celine Siama, and Lyus Carrax who visited the cinema when local volunteers and Cinephiles occupied the building after closing to host the famous daily shows and conversations.
