British number one Katie Polater recovered from a group to overcome IRINA-Camelia Begu in the second round of Indian Wales.
The Romanian won the first group in the tie, but Polater took over the victory of 6-7 (2-7) 6-3 6-0 in California.
Bouter, 28, plays her third session of the year, and she had goodbye in the first round while Begu ranked 74th in the world, won over Li from the United States of America.
The English woman will face a great test in the third round when she plays Elena Reybakina from Kazakhstan, where she defeated the seventh seed, Suzan Lamamin, from the Netherlands 6-3 6-3.
Polater fell to 38 in the world rankings that had not played since it came out of the second round of Australian in January.
