But he saved his best to the medal race, which occurred after only two and a half hours, to achieve the first GB gold in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.

“Frankly, I didn't think I won it. I thought Henrik was in front of me five meters away. When you were in a queue, you could not really tell me what is going on. I was paying every part of me to the line,” said Azu, who recently reclaimed him to the United Kingdom, told BBC Sport.

“I know that I am in the right place, and this has confirmed to me that I made the right decisions. This is just the beginning of the journey for us as one team. We come to take everything and I am excited to be on this trip now.”

AZU became the ninth British man who wins the title-the first since Richard Keelti won a consecutive title in 2017.

The platform is followed by Zo and Robertson, followed by bronze medals that were won by 1500 meters Ravi, Cote Nullan and Mixed Corporation 4x400M.

It is the first individual international medal for Robertson, 34, who received a late summons to the team and finished fourth in 2021.

“This time last week I was suffering from a cheese pie, I was spending a great time with my family in Scarburo,” Robertson joked.

“I received the call on Wednesday to be backup, but I was always ready [to compete] Because it was my goal for a long time. 34 -year -old, to go to my second family ever, I can't order anything else. “
