“There are 194 travelers on board and the crew and passengers need urgent medical help,” said Portuguese civil protection sources.
Emergency services are already on the runway where the tap plane landed slightly more than an hour ago.
Among the respondents are police, firefighters, Red Cross officials, as well as paramedics.
Other aircraft had to wait in the air to get permission to land so that the plane in the midst of the drama could achieve a landing of emergency situations.
It appeared that many people were taken to the hospital after the drama in the air.
The Portuguese daily Corio da Manha said that nine people suffered from inhaling smoke and were taken to hospital and two other passengers were assisted by medical respondents next to the plane.
The airline cannot be reached last night to confirm the personalities of the victims, and it was not known the nationalities of those who need medical treatment.
A TAP spokesman said earlier that the plane had been transferred to Porto because of a “technical issue and landed”, saying that the passengers would be placed on another plane so that they could reach their intended destination as soon as possible.
