The Peruvian president announced the state of emergency in the capital on Monday and ordered the deployment of soldiers to help the police address the increase in violence, amid a widespread cry a day after the killing of a popular singer.
The government of President Dina Polarrt has published a decree saying that the state of emergency will last 30 days, and the authorities will restrict some rights, including freedom of assembly and movement.
This means that the police and the army will be able to detain people without a judicial order.
Peru has witnessed an increase in killings, violent blackmail and attacks on public places in recent months. The police reported 459 killings from January 1 to March 16, and 1909 extortion report in January alone.
But the anger is directed after the killing of Paul Flores, the 39 -year -old lead singer in the Compaity Armonda 10.
In Congress, opposition lawmakers asked to vote for lack of confidence against Interior Minister Juan Jose Santhavas when they say it is the lack of a plan to fight the increasing violence.
The vote in the plenary session in Congress is expected to be discussed later this week.
Flores was shot to death early on Sunday when the attackers attacked the bus and his teammates were traveling after a concert in Lima.
