Local news broadcaster Lyon Harris NBC4 Washington is leaving forever, more than four months after he initially moved away from the station in the wake of the broadcast in which he struggled.
The journalist has long described the departure on Tuesday as a “difficult decision” that he took with his “health and his family” into consideration after he became a title for all the wrong reasons for the shaky thanks SIM segment.
“I have asked many of you about me during the past few months,” said in a statement on the NBC Washington website.
“As you know, I spent time focusing on my health and my family. After more than 40 years of work without stopping and dramatic changes in the news and television industry, I made the difficult decision to stay away from my role in NBC4.”
Harris, 63, was with the local station for eight years. He previously worked for 21 years on CNN and another 14 -year -old programs at WJLA, according to BIO.
He covered the main news events including the Oclhoma City bombing, the OJ Simpson trial and the September 11 terrorist attacks.
“We are grateful to Lyon's eight services to serve our newsroom,” NBC4 Washington said in a statement on Tuesday.

Harris, who dealt with alcohol use and health problems in the past, faced uncomfortable questions about the Thanksgiving news sector in which he was sometimes frequented and stumbled on words on the air.
The station said at the time that he was taking a leave to focus on unlimited health issues.

Harris previously talked about his battle with alcohol in March 2022 after he had a problem breaking another car while driving under the effect.
