Thousands of travelers in a rude awakening can be at the security checkpoints at the airport if they appear without the right identity.
The new federal base begins soon, and TSA says that many travelers are still not prepared.

The agency estimates about 20 % of passengers, about 500,000 people across the country, they can face problems because they do not have the correct definition.
“These delays will be real. We will work with airlines and airport partners to try to reduce these delays,” Lori Dunkers, TSA spokesman, told Fox Affiliate KCPQ.
TSA performs 2.6 million passengers per day.
If someone in five passengers appear unpopular, this is half a million people need an additional examination or completely removed.
At Seattle Takoma International Airport, where approximately 60,000 people fly a day, about 12,000 people can strike obstacles if they do not update their identity in time.
The deadline for the real identifier
Starting May 7, travelers will need 18 years and over a real license compatible with identity or another document approved on local trips.
Acceptable alternatives include an American passport, active military identifier, global entry, or Nexus card.
Dankers says the agency is preparing for confusion and crowding at checkpoints if people are not behaving now.
The agency recommends that travelers arrive at least three hours before local trips if they do not have a real or alternative identifier.
“Checking the identity is Lynchpin in security and we will make sure that passengers are checking that they say they before they can exceed the checkpoint,” said Carter Langstone.
The Washington State Department says it sees an increase in people trying to upgrade to compatible identifiers.
Officials suggest checking dates in offices beyond home or visit during midday hours to overcome long lines.

ID cards contain a gold or black star, or in California, a yellow bear.
Apply for a real identifier

The process varies depending on the situation, but the population will need some documents to apply for a real identification before the deadline.
Regardless of the situation, the online application can start by wiping the necessary documents, basic information and social security numbers. Once it is presented and reviewed, a personal visit to DMV or your state department agency is necessary for the host to verify documents.
From there, ThumbPrint will be recorded in the system, and a picture of the identifier will be released before sending it by mail.
The necessary documents are those that appear:
- Full legal name (previous driving license, passport, etc.)
- Date of birth (such as birth certificate, or one official copy)
- Social Security Number (Social Security Card)
- Two evidence of residency (such as the Facilities Bill or Voter Registration Card)
- Legal status

If the card does not have one of these signs, it is not compatible with the identity and will not be accepted as evidence of the identity.
No excuses
The real knowledge law was approved in 2005 to enhance security after the September 11 attacks and set strict federal standards for the driver's licenses issued by the state and identity cards.
The real knowledge enforcement has been delayed several times, the last of which is due to the Covid-19s.
But TSA says on May 7, 2025, is the final deadline and there is no more extensions.
Once this deadline passes, the Federal Agency will not accept any driving license or identity card issued by the state that does not adhere to real identity standards.
Those who are looking for their new knowledge can still do this on May 7, but this is when the rules begin to apply them.
How to prepare for DMV

Here are some ways to simplify your DMV experience:
- Check the DMV website on your state to see if the task can be fully done online. Several operations can now be performed online, such as renewing a car registration or changing the address. Otherwise, many operations can be started online and ended in a personal site, such as renewing a driver's license.
- Set an appointment. Although walking is available in all locations, there is a time time can help reduce frustrated waiting times.
- Check the DMV site to make sure you have all the models needed for the task.
- You arrive early. Since many people prefer to try to treat simple tasks in lunch breaks or vacation days, appearing early may mean that you are only one of a few.
- Eat before you go or bring a snack. Since waiting times can go beyond expectations, bringing a form of sustenance.
- Be positive. The process is temporary.
