According to the police chief Peter Moulg, Kelvin lost control of the car, as he deviated from the road and landed in a trench about 60 meters, before hitting a tree.
He added that both Corphenvis and Garvis Hakzimana “died immediately.”
Local reports also stated that one of the second passengers – a woman who was recognized as Sharon Kosji – was in the car at the time of the accident.
She escaped the influence but suffered from serious injuries, and was transferred to the race hospital to receive medical attention.
The bodies of Kelva and his coach Garvais Hakizimana have been transferred to the hospital morgue.
When did Kelvin Kibtom score the world marathon record?
In 2023, the late athlete celebrated his finest professional victory after breaking the record for the world's marathon in Chicago.
Kelvin completed the 26 miles race in just two hours and 35 seconds – overlooking the mark of his colleague Kenny Eliod Kipchog.
The star turned to the operation of the marathon from shorter races per year before the record pace.
The International Athletic Path Federation believed its records only in February 2024.

“I had no travel money to track the sessions,” I explained to the BBC Sport Africa.
“My training place is far from the track, so I started training with players who run the roads – and so I entered the marathon.”
In an interview with the BBC in 2023, Kelvin opened as he ascended to success.
He said, “It was a long journey for me during my career. I was trying hard to follow this dream to run a global record.
“I am really achieved and I am really happy. My life has changed now.”
His coach Garvais Hakizimana – who also died in the accident – participated in the same interview and talked about Kelvin.
He said: “I knew him when he was a young boy, and he was grazing cattle barefoot.
“It was in 2009, I was training near his father's farm, kicking my punishment and I would like to chase him.
“Now, I am grateful for him to accomplish it.”

In the wake of the news of the death of Kelvin Kibtom, a number of salutations flowed, with the former Prime Minister in Kenya affirming the “deep loss of a real hero”.
Railla Ontaa moved to the social networking site X and wrote: “The devastating news and we are sad for a wonderful individual loss, Kelvin Kiptum, World Record Holder and Kenyan Athletics Icon.
“Along with his coach, they tragicly passed in the accident tonight.”

The London Marathon organizers wrote: “We were shocked and deeply saddened to hear the terrible news about the death of the record holder of the Clevin Kibtom Marathon and coach Gervis Hakisimana.
“Everyone's ideas in the TCS London Marathon with the Kelvin's and Gervais family.”
Kenyan Sports Minister Ababu Namlaba also took over to X and said: “A devastating disease !! Kenya lost a special jewel. It was lost to words.”

Before his death, the exact number of the clear value of Kelvin Kibtom was not shared.
However, it was believed that he had raised an estimated $ 500,000 (about 396,000 pounds), according to various reports.
The main source of Kelvin's income stems from his brilliant career in athletics.
Why did it take KIPTUM 23 years old to agree to run a marathon
KIPTUM may have been a world standard and hero, but it took a lot of persuasion to make it run in the first place.
According to his coach, Garvais Hakizimana – who died next to him – KIPTUM needed time to warm up to the idea of managing the marathon race.
Kenyan was initially afraid that it would be very difficult.
“He had some fear and a luxury half of the marathon was preferred until 2022 when he finally agreed to a marathon,” Hakisimana told BBC Sport Africa.
Quickly forward a few years, KIPTUM will have 42 km victories in Valencia, London and Chicago.
But there were also other complications on the KIPTUM road to fulfill its potential.
Kibtom had to persuade his family that he could make her in athletics.
His father was insisting that he should go to college instead.
“I wanted me to study to follow a diploma to be electric, but I was saying that I needed to be a sporting – I had a passion,” Kibtom recalls.
“That period was very difficult for me because I trained for four years, yet there were no successes and they were disappointed inside me. But I kept paying.”
In the end, his father came, even sometimes helps him get training early in the morning on time.
