A new controversial law will restrict children's time on social media.
The new modification of children between the ages of 16 years or less than an hour limits the screen time awaiting the approval of their parents.

Under the law, social media applications that do not ask users to verify their age will now be required to confirm a person's age.
Child parents can choose to extend or reduce their child's time by setting up the application, according to the local Fox WTG.
The law comes after the research showed that social media can harm the mental health of young people.
The ruler of Virginia Glenn Yongen said that social media has caused a “crisis” of mental health, and it is believed that this law can help it.
The proposed draft law was signed as an amendment to the Consumer Data Protection Law, which is the Virginia State Law designed to protect consumers from unfair or deceptive commercial practices.
Under the new amendment, social media platforms are prohibited from using information collected for any purpose other than an age verification.
Platforms that are mainly used for email or messages are still exempt from the new law.
In January, Senator Schueler described the draft law as “a giant first step towards organizing social media and protecting our children.”
Yongen pushed to raise the age to 18 years or less, which was approved by the Senate.
However, the House of Representatives voted against the ruler's changes.
It was supported by the General Assembly of the state from the two parties, but not everyone is excited.
“I don't know if I see her effective,” Jin Gulbeek, a professor at the University of Maryland Information College, told WTTG.
“Frankly, the children are very smart to circumvent this, as you know, I completely understand it.
“Like, what will you do if you are a platform, 12 -year -old records, she is 14 years old, and she says she is 25 like, will you require an identifier of everyone who scores your platform? Maybe not,” Follow Golbeck.
“If you take these platforms away, what they will do is find other platforms outside the limits of what this law covers, which allows them to communicate with their friends and participate in very similar ways, and this really limits the effect that this will happen.”
The draft law reflects a similar law proposed in Utah, which restricts the Times that minors can pass on social media.
Consumer Data Protection Law in Virginia
The draft law gives the rights of Virginia residents related to their personal data, including the right to access, correct and delete their information, as well as the right to cancel the subscription to some processing activities such as the targeted advertisement and the sale of data.
Through the new amendment, social media platform operators will be asked to use reasonable ways to determine if the user is small less than 16 years and limits the use of the social media platform to one hour per day, unless one of the parents agrees to increase the daily limit.
The 2023 draft law will prevent the palace from passing on social media between 10:30 pm and 6:30 am without the approval of the parents.
The proposal received support from the two parties, however, a non -profit regulator linked to the law.
Non -profit organizations claimed that restrictions violate freedom of expression.
Although she got support, Utah Spencer Cox's governor could not implement it after the Federal Court judge prevented her in September 2024.
