Katarina Johnson Thompson, the Olympic silver scientist, withdrew from her first event since Paris Games last year due to a slight injury.

Johnson Thompson, 32, had to participate in the prominent Gotzis Hypo meeting to be held in Austria on Saturday and Sunday.

But the world champion in Heptathlon twice said on Thursday that she was “really integrated” so that she would not compete at the weekend after she was infected with training.

“I was really looking to compete in the first Heptotlon since Paris, especially in Gotzis because the event is very special,” Johnson Thompson said at a Instagram post.

“With a heavy heart, I had to make this decision. Fortunately, the injury is not serious and I will return to the path soon.”

Great British athletes won its first Olympic medal in four games when she ended behind the Thamoua competitions in Belgium, Paris.
