The Federation of Tennis confirmed

“From the beginning, WTA was silent and clear in condemning the Russian war on Ukraine and the actions of the Russian government against the Ukrainian people,” the association said.

“In line with our position, WTA has taken many steps to help our Ukrainian players, who faced great challenges such as professional athletes.

“WTA was also clear that it was established on the principles of equality and non -discrimination, and that its rules stipulate that the competitions are open to all qualified players based on their merit, without discrimination.

“In line with these principles, and something with other tennis organizations, WTA has taken a position that individual athletes should not be punished for the actions of their governments.”

He added: “While the Union of Professional Tennis players has the greatest sympathy for the important challenges faced by Mrs. Tzournko and our other Ukrainian athletes, we are disappointed that she decided to participate in litigation to seek to achieve responsibility for the reciprocal agreement.

“At all times, WTA acted and manage it appropriately and according to our rules, and we are confident that we will prevail in this litigation.”
