Liverpool President Tom Werner admitted that the club's hierarchy was disappointed when he informed them of Trent Alexander Arnold that he wanted to leave. Alexander Arnold refused to offer a new contract with his childhood club in order to join Real Madrid this summer.

While he was already ready to join Real as a free agent when the Liverpool deal ended on June 30, Alexander-Arnold ended early. The Spanish giants Liverpool paid 8.4 million pounds to sign it early, so that he could play with them in the club's World Cup.

His decision was the opposite of Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dick, who decided to sign new contracts, and some supporters, who accused him of betraying the club. Emotions were high in the last few matches of the season, and Werner admitted that the owners of the Fenway Sports Group were at first annoyed.

“We respect the fact that Trent has moved,” Werner told Liverpool Echo. “I told someone this story recently about seeing Trent at the end of the last week of the season, with Billy [Hogan, chief executive] I just wanted him to know me personally, and we were a club grateful for all his contributions.

“He showed me a picture when he was seven years old, when he was a young child in the academy, and I have a lot of awareness of everything he did and so it is time to move and time to replace him.

“We wish him success and understand the feelings of supporters who were disappointed and we were also disappointed, but my wonderful memories overwhelmed her.

“I will never forget this traffic he did, the corner he took, for the fourth goal against Barcelona. This was just a genius work, and as a football fan, he was watching some of his passes, and the way the ball passes 30 yards to a specific point and created a goal … No wonder in Real Madrid!”

Alexander-Arnold made three matches for Real in the club's World Cup and tries to get used to his new teammates and the language barrier. He learns Spanish and says that integration has become easier by the director – and former Liverpool star – Xabi Alonso.

“Every player causes my admiration,” Alexander Arnold told reporters after his 3-0 victory over RB Salzburg. “When I played against Real Madrid, (I knew) all world -class players. But the way the boys are, when you come, you expect it to be very frightening, you do not know what to expect.

“But it was very warm, very welcome, and made me feel at home immediately, which is amazing. It allows me to play as much as I could and today, I got to the game, and I was confident of going and performing.

“The settlement period is now taking place, and it is about playing and being the best player I can be better to the team and help the team win the largest possible number of games starting with this competition.”
