Archaeologists have achieved a “great discovery” after finding a 800 -ton Dutch merchant ship that sank 168 years ago.
Koning Willem De Tweed sank off the Robe coast, Australia in June 1857 – killing 16 members of its 25 crew in deadly diving.

The pioneering discovery was announced by the Australian National Maritime Museum and the Silentworld Foundation after arid for four years.

A spokesman said: “We looked at things like the depth of the ship – the draft – and we looked at the depth of the water in which it sits, and it seems that everything is lined well,” said a spokesman.
He also said that the researchers found “magnetic anomaly”, with the length of the 140 -foot ship.
The museum praised the Silentworld Foundation in cooperation with the south AustraliaThe Department of the Environment, Water and Flinders University to make the discovery.

Their team believed that they found the wreckage three years ago, but Hunter said the sand made the identity difficult.
The research team plans to return to the site, hoping to find more debris.
