The number one British Katie Polater dismantled her new by getting the first WTA Clay-Court championship in her career at the age of twenty-eight.
Polater moved to the second round in Madrid with a 4-6 6-2 6-1 victory over the Czech opponent Katrina Seniakova.
Although it was founded at the upper end of the game, the experience of Polater and its display on red dirt was limited.
The appearance of the world number 40 in the WTA 1000 championship in the Spanish capital – an important event in its accumulation of French open next month – is only the fifth time that competed in the main clouds of the clay event at the round level.
“I always knew that Clay would be the most difficult surface of me, but I have never given myself the opportunity to play well and build on it,” she told BBC Sport.
With injuries, and their timing, last year was my first season.
“I felt that my level last year was really improving. I didn't fortunately not overcome [Paula] Badosa in the first round of the French Open Championship – I felt I deserved more last season. “
Polater's bonus is a match from the second round against Italian seed, Yasmine Paulini, who reached the French final open last year.
“I hope I can show it – even if it is not this week or next week – I can play well on clay,” she added.
“You see a lot of senior affected people play well and asked myself why I couldn't be me.”
At the same time, the British number is five Francesca Jones I moved to the main clouds after winning the second qualifying match.
Jones, who played in her second event since her collapse on the field this month, won 7-6 (7-3) 3-6 6-1 against Spain's Christina Boxa.
This will be the first time that the 24-year-old has played in the main withdrawal of the WTA 1000-the most famous out of specializations.
