On Father's Day, two men gather as they have lost their daughters in front of the tyranny of patriarchal society on behalf of the #Standwithir campaign.
Ziadin Youssefzai, the father of the Nobel Peace Prize, Malla Yusufzai, and Rangit, sat the father of a daughter who became a victim of brutal sexual assault in India, to conversation in New York in March. Their discussion, on their joint experience and efforts to combat toxic masculinity, has become a basis for a new short documentary released today on YouTube.
“There is one thing that is common between you with them,” says Youssefzai. “Both are known to our daughters. We have been identified because of them. ”

Malala Youssefzai was only fifteen years old when she was shot in her head in the Swat region in Pakistan by a Taliban militant who angered her to teach girls. Kiran (a pseudonym for the daughter of Rangit) was only 13 years old when a group of boys assaulted in a rural part of the Indian state of Jahrakhand. As shown in the documentary film nominated for the Academy Award To kill the tigerDirected by Nisha Bahja, Kiran's parents – Rangit and Jigantity – were subjected to the villagers to marry their daughter to one of her attackers to “preserve the honor of the family.”
Ranjett, Jigante and Kiran stood up to this pressure, instead insisted on pursuing criminal charges against the attackers.
“If we are forced on her at the Marriage Association, this is a great crime,” Rangit explains to Youssefzai during their conversation. “It will be very suppressing.”

Youssefzai tells Rangit that he is known for his ordeal. “These types of difficult circumstances have faced something similar,” he says when everyone is in society on one side. They think in a certain way, which is a way against girls and their dignity and not in favor of justice. ”

In the documentary, Youssafzai and Ranji participate in “an explicit and moving conversation with a deep look at the decisive role and the strength of the male ally,” according to a statement. “Parents are part of #Standwitherher, a campaign that defends gender equality around the world and which sees the role of men and children as much importance to this chase.” The #Standwithher campaign is supported by NGO Partners Equality Now, and Equimundo: Male Center and Social Justice, and the Manengage alliance.
Both men – Youssefzai, an educational activist born in the province of Khyber Bakhtongua in Pakistan, and Rangit, a modest asset farmer in a remote area in India – from the traditions of their cultures by calling for their daughters strongly.
“I fought against parental thinking,” says Youssefzai in the movie. “I didn't cut off [Malala’s] The wings, but definitely wanted others. “
