Andrea Stella, director of the McLaren team, said: “With the benefit of the late perception, let's say that given the situation in the second corner, it was better to have Lando only to raise and make sure that he could keep the second place because the car, again, with the benefit of that, we see that it was very fast and that it was certain that he had passed Max, and then, Bando was later.
“So I think every situation in the race, you have to deal with the mindset of the place where the opportunities lie. I think in this case, Lando could have been more patience.”
NORRIS is more late in the Verstapen because it passed in the role of 11 by leaving the track and was forced to restore the place, before recovering the next.
Stella said he had not seen a difference in his drivers' approaches to the Verstapen race.
“Both drivers were approaching bypassing in a way in which Lando did not explode in a few centimeters in the corner 11, and it could have completed the transgression at a similar time. So I do not think that we should read a lot in situations. I think, as I said before, it is sometimes part of the second or part of the range.
“Loss of time came due to the having to return the situation. So I think in terms of exceeding maneuvering, accuracy and design, I do not see that there is any difference between both drivers.”
Once Verstapen passed, Norris closed on PiaSSTRI in the second period, but he ran out time to fill the gap.
