Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement on Tuesday that Israel agreed to the proposal of US President Donald Trump to a ceasefire with Iran after achieving its goal of removing the threat of nuclear and ballistic missiles in Tehran.
“Israel thanks President Trump and the United States for their support in defense and their participation in eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat,” the statement said.
“In light of achieving the goals of the operation, and in full coordination with President Trump, Israel agreed to the president's proposal for a mutual ceasefire,” the statement added.
Trump said on Tuesday that the ceasefire between Israel and Iran is now in place and asked both countries not to violate it, just hours after Iran launched waves of missiles, which the ambulance service in Israel said that at least four people were killed.
Netanyahu, who will later on Tuesday, said that Israel would respond strongly to any violation of the ceasefire.
Israel, which the United States joined at the weekend, carried out attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, after it claimed that Tehran was close to obtaining a nuclear weapon.
