The Northern Irish contestant Gary McCoy remains in the critical care unit in the hospital after an accident during the SuperSport session on the first day of practice for northwest 200 on Wednesday.

McCawi was transferred to the hospital by an ambulance while the Englishman Craig Neve was transferred from the circle by air ambulance after both were involved in an accident in Mill Road Doundabout, six minutes from the Supersport qualification session.

In an update presented by his wife, Leana, she confirmed that he is still in the critical care unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where “it is brilliantly taken care of by the team.”

McCawi suffered from a wide list of injuries including: 11 broken ribs, broken pelvis, perforated right lung, broken collar bone, broken right wrist, broken left thumb and small bleeding in the brain.

“I wanted to say on behalf of Gary and myself that we are very grateful to all kind messages, good desires and support that everyone shows.

“Gary has a long way in terms of recovery, but if one thing I always said about my husband is that he is the most stubborn person I know and proves that every day.”
