Rangers confirmed for the first time that they are in negotiations with American investors, including San Francisco 49ers, about a possible acquisition of the club.
Reports on attention appeared for the first time earlier this year, but IBrox said that “productive talks” are continuing.
In a joint statement, Rangers also added that potential investors are looking for a controlling share.
None of the two sides mentioned a timetable for the conclusion of any deal, although the sources near the negotiations previously stated that a deal is expected to be completed between April and June.
The statement said: “Rangers and the current shareholders in productive talks with two main members of the consortium, Andrew Cavinag and 49ers Global Football Group, are about the possibility that a consortium will gain control of the club and to pump additional capital.
“These discussions reflect a common recognition of the importance of Rangers in the long term, its aspirations and management.”
The BBC Sport previously reported that Paraj Marath, Chairman of the Leeds United and power behind 49ers Enterprises – the 49ers NFL investment suite – is a major player in the potential Rangers ’acquisition.
The development comes just two days after the ELLAND ROAD team promoted the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Rangers has now appointed Everton Football Director Kevin Thillawell as a new sports director.
