South Korean President Yoon Sok Yol was removed from his position after the Constitutional Court voted unanimously to support the parliament's move to stop it after announcing the martial law in December 2024.

The Acting President will remain in the country, Han Dac Soo, in his post until a new president will be opened, with presidential elections within 60 days. Han said in a televised speech: “With regard to the will of our sovereign people, I will do my best to manage the upcoming presidential elections in accordance with the constitution and the law, and to ensure a smooth transition to the following administration,” Han said in a televised speech.

Yoon was suspended from his post last December after he announced the martial law with the claim that the opposition party was offending its parliamentary majority. Professional and opposing demonstrators fill the streets of the country's capital, Seoul during the past few days, with the circulation of the Constitutional Court in the case. Finally, all the eight judges voted to strip Yun of his presidential powers.

The court said that there are legal ways to address disputes over the violations of the parliamentary majority and that mobilizing the army was a serious violation of the constitutional duty of Yoon. “(Yun) committed a serious betrayal of the people's confidence, who are the sovereign members of the Democratic Republic.” He added that by declaring martial law, Yoon created chaos throughout the South Korean society, the economy and foreign policy.

“I thank all of them who supported me and encouraged me despite the many shortcomings. I am very sorry and sorry because I could not meet your expectations. I will always pray to the beloved Republic of Korea and its citizens.”

After months of uncertainty, South Korea will now be able to move forward to face the other challenges it is currently facing, including the commercial tariffs of the American program Donald Trump and a tense relationship with China, although the Chinese government recently provided some commercial privileges towards the country. The entertainment industry in Korea is currently waiting to know if the informal ban of China will be lifted on Korean content.

Yun is the second South Korean president to be removed from his position by dismissing after Park Jeon Hai in 2017.
