The AMC Classic in the Ohio Valley Mall is the most recent of the chain’s closures, The Intelligencer reported.

Located in St. Clairsville, less than a two-hour drive from Colombus, Ohio, the theatre was one of only two cinemas in the Ohio Valley.

An assistant manager of the theatre confirmed that the business would not open after Sunday, but did not give any more information.

This AMC location was a staple for residents in the Ohio Valley and many were reportedly shocked by the unexpected news.

“Rip AMC Theatres in the Ohio Valley,” one user wrote in a post on X.

And this is not the AMC theatre to shut in recent times.

As moviegoers have chosen to stay home and save money, several locations across the U.S. have been forced to close their doors.

A location in El Paso, Texas – an hour and a half flight from Austin – closed with little warning last month.

Loyal customers flocked to social media to share their sadness at the news.

“We’ve been coming here for years since my, you know my kids were little and we still come here every now and then,” one individual said.

Theatre-goers in Delaware were also upset when they discovered the closure of a local AMC in March this year.

The U.S. Sun contacted the company for comment.

AMC Theatres has been faced with financial struggles for years.

It came close to filing for bankruptcy after the pandemic and is managing a debt of close to $4.5 billion.

SHUTTING DOWN

Meanwhile, Rite Aid pharmacy and Bit Lots have also been faced with store closures this summer.

Rite Aid filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2023 and has closed more than 200 stores since then.

The theatre company has faced many closures in recent years and it tried to draw in more customers this summer:

  • The chain tried to attract business this summer by screening certain events from the Paris Olympics.
  • Around 160 AMC locations across the U.S. screened events between July 27 and August 11.
  • The chain came close to filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after the pandemic.
  • And they are now managing around $4.5 billion of debt.
  • Adam Aron, the Chairman and CEO of AMC Theatres, believes that 2025 and 2026 will be successful years in terms of growth.

In July, it announced that it had plans to shut even more locations before the end of the year.

And Big Lots said it would be closing 315 stores across 35 states earlier this year.

But as the chain just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it is possible that even more of its stores could close.

This would affect over 30,000 workers across the U.S.

And around 1,4000 would be forced to close.
