Shin Stevenson and his partner Lori Gallagher said they noticed a single white glow in their one -year -old Cooper, who was later diagnosed as eye cancer.

Shin Stevenson, 35, and his partner, Lori Gallagher, 30, said that their lives changed after they noticed something wrong in their one -year -old Cooper's eye, one night at home in December 2024. The parents monitored a white glow, but it was only noticeable in low light or when they took a picture with the flash. Shen revealed that he initially rejected her, but he later took Cooper to the doctors, as they were then informed of the sudden news.
“My partner first noticed a white glow in Kooper's eye in low light conditions. I initially rejected it and then I noticed it after two days – then I kept seeing it,” Shin said.
“Google and we encountered some advice that was said to take a picture with the flash, and the white glow was clear at the time.” Sheen said the weekend was “panic” and will constantly wander around the reasons.
After a visit to the doctor, Kooper was transferred to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital for ultrasound, showing that he had a block in his eye. Shin said they were referred to the local hospital a few days later, and said: “It was another frightening time, and they did not know the error.
“We have read that there could be some other reasons for the dark red reflection in his eyes, so we tried to adhere to the hope of a different diagnosis. After ultrasound, they told us that he had a block in his eyes and that” it might be dangerous, or may not be dangerous, “which was not excessively beneficial.
“They said that he would be referred to Birmingham, but they did not mention the retinal tumor team. I think the heartbreak was truly hit when we left the hospital and reached the car park – and we realized what we were dealing with.”
Kooper was diagnosed with retinal gang tumor – a type of eye cancer that begins as cell growth in the retina – in December 2024. Its form of cancer is rare and usually affects children under the age of six.
“It is difficult to describe my feeling at that moment, it was curious to hear that your song had cancer. There was a lot of my head about whether he would need to get his eye or not.”
Kooper began chemotherapy inside the arteries – a targeted treatment for cancer where chemotherapy drugs are delivered directly to the area – in December, before laser treatment and one round of chemotherapy injections.
Tot is still undergoing treatment, and Shin said the results are “mixed”. The father added: “The first two rounds inside the arteries were somewhat effective, and the third was very effective, but the fourth had a little effect.
“After the treatment, when it is on the steroids, Cooper becomes very sad for four to five days, which is difficult. My partner and I am, and we cannot send it to the nursery when it is like this, but it loves to go on the trips to the hospital.”
Chective urges parental and health care professionals to be aware of the most common symptoms of eye cancer – white glow in the eye in a flash or in a specific light, and around. “It was a great scatter, we had the initial grant that helped travel costs and so on,” Shin said.
“Our support factor was our vision every time we go to the hospital, which may have had the biggest impact, as it had a neutral contact point to talk to and get it, and she always participates with us and with Kooper. It also helped us in DLA models and also to equip us in August.
