Egan, who reportedly retired from the police department recently, was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way to a motorcycle on Thursday night, according to the Illinois State Police.
Officials confirmed to The U.S. Sun that Egan hit a motorcyclist and passenger, ejecting them both from the motorbike.
The couple, identified by family on social media as Trevor Hopkins and Chelsey Farley, were taken to a nearby hospital with “serious injuries,” the ISP said.
Farley’s sister, Cacee, shared videos captured at the scene of Egan appearing to stagger around his car and struggle to stand upright as he interacted with first responders.
Onlookers in the video are heard commenting on the former cop’s alleged drunkenness.
“Look at him, he can’t even walk right,” one spectator said.
One clip showed Egan struggling to close his car door and nearly losing his footing.
It’s unclear if Egan took a sobriety test at the scene. He was not arrested.
ISP are continuing the probe into Egan as they told The U.S. Sun that “additional charges may be filed pending toxicology report results.”
Cacee posted videos of the scene on X and demanded justice for her sister and her boyfriend as they suffered injuries from the crash.
“My sister Chelsey & her boyfriend were hit on their motorcycle by a drunk off duty cop in my hometown of Springfield Illinois,” Cacee alleged in her series of posts.
Farley’s sister said that police aren’t answering questions from her family as they claim Egan “received special treatment while my sister is fighting for her life.”
“If it weren’t a cop in these videos, he would be in jail like anyone else.”
Timeline of the crash
The following is a timeline of the crash on Thursday, September 5:

Cacee also said in the posts that Egan wasn’t retired at the time of the collision, despite what local outlets are reporting.
Springfield Police’s Deputy Chief Sara Pickford told local outlet The State Journal-Register that Thursday was Egan’s last day working with SPD.
The outlet reports that Egan worked with the department for 20 years and was promoted to sergeant in 2022.
The U.S. Sun has reached out to SPD for comment.
Farley’s family organized a GoFundMe to help with medical costs as the motorbike passenger recovers from the crash.
“Our beloved Chelsey Rose Farley was recently in a tragic motorcycle accident caused by an intoxicated, driving off-duty or retired, reports unclear, police officer,” the family wrote on the page.
“As a result of the crash, Chelsey has sustained multiple serious broken bones, fractures, injured organs and we do not know the extent yet of her traumatic brain injuries.
“She is now facing a long and challenging road to recovery, one that will require extensive medical care, rehabilitation and support.”
SPD told local ABC affiliate WICS that the investigation into Egan is ongoing.
“Both and active and retired law enforcement officers must be held to the same standards to maintain public trust and uphold the integrity of the Springfield Police Department,” Springfield Police Chief Ken Scarlette told the outlet.
